"On an unseasonably warm day in November of 1982, AT&T executive Jim Cash led a caravan of 12 men from northern New Jersey to Granby, Massachusetts about an hour west of Boston. Our destination was a Franciscan Friary where we would encounter the irrepressible Fr. James McCurry O.F.M. Father James led us on our first retreat, introducing us to the heroic life and mission of St. Maximilian Kolbe along the way. We were mesmerized by the zeal of this “stupendous” saint as Pope Paul VI called him and who is more popularly known today as the “Martyr of Auschwitz.” At the conclusion of the retreat, Fr. James led us in a personal consecration of our lives, families and work to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We 12 returned home as official Knights of the Immaculate. The Mid-Atlantic MI was born."
